Solar Power Plant Ouarzazate Morocco

The project provided funds for the construction of the first, 160 MW strong power plant within the Ouarzazate solar complex. The solar complex consists of one photovoltaic and three solar thermal power plants with a combined power of 580 MW, and is one of the largest solar power plants. The project contributed directly to the implementation of the Moroccan solar plan as well as the Union for the Mediterranean’s (UfM) solar plan. The plant generates power in an efficient, socially responsible and environmentally sound manner, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting Morocco’s efforts to mitigate climate change. It generates 370 gigawatts of electricity and reduces CO2 emissions by 230,000 tonnes annually. The project used innovative technologies such as parabolic troughs and salt storage technologies to encourage their commercial launch.
