Guarding the sea and its marine ecosystems against the dangers of ghost fishing gear and other human-made waste
Coastal and marine ecosystems in the Gulf of Tribugá are increasingly threatened by ghost gear and marine litter. These damage reefs, endanger biodiversity and affect local livelihoods. The project strengthens local capacities to address these impacts. It supports trained divers in removing ghost gear and expands their work by actively involving women and young people. At the same time, environmental education is enhanced through community activities and local media. In addition, the project develops solutions for recycling recovered materials and creates income opportunities. By linking clean-up actions with education and local value creation, the project contributes to the long-term conservation of biodiversity.
