The Green Cooling Initiative (GCI) accepts expressions of interest until end of May.

The Green Cooling Initiative has called for entries to the "Green Cooling Ideas Competition", offering funding and support to the chosen winners. The deadline for submitting project ideas on green and sustainable cooling in developing countries is on the 31st of May.

Refrigeration and Air Condition (RAC) appliances account for 10-15% of the global greenhouse gas emissions. Especially in developing and emerging countries the RAC market is rapidly growing. However low energy efficiency rates, high leakage rates and outdated technologies have severe environmental implications. Emissions from this market are expected to increase 7% per annum until 2050.

The GCI aims hopes to support private and public entities in shifting the trend away from using the harmful fluorinated gas in cooling appliances and instead transition to ozone friendly natural refrigerants and energy efficient technologies. In this context the GCI hopes to partner with cooling technology manufacturers, suppliers and end-users working in developing and emerging countries to establish innovative projects.

Up to four winners will be selected and will join the Green Cooling Partnership. They will receive between 25,000€ to 75,000€ in funding aid as well as technical support and will benefit from the GCI's strong green cooling expertise and access to exclusive networks.

The Green Cooling Initiative has been funded and supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the BMUB since it was established in 2012 and is implemented by the Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
