Reducing Maritime Transport Emissions
Maritime transport, including the operation of ships, ports and trucks is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and other pollutants. Around 90% of traded goods are carried by sea and 60% of these passes through the ports of Asia. The project supports South East Asian countries to transform their maritime transport sector to a low-carbon future in line with national and regional GHG priorities and international commitments. Actions include capacity building, support in national action plans and demonstration of technology solutions for reducing GHG emissions from ships, within ports, and from hinterland transport. A regional knowledge network ensures the sustainability of the measures and supports further decarbonization and a green transformation in the maritime sector of South East Asia.
