A journey through Asia and Eastern Europe
As in Western Europe, transitioning the supply of energy and heat to renewables is an important goal for countries in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Southeast Asia. Many International Climate Initiative (IKI) projects in these regions are therefore focused on energy supplies and energy efficiency as well as the funding of major projects for transforming energy systems.
Equally important, however, are measures for adapting to the impacts of climate change and for the conservation of biodiversity – human populations and native species in many countries are increasingly threatened by floods and hurricanes, for example. Overexploitation of the natural environment is also causing biodiversity loss, and harming agricultural production and local economies.
Accordingly, China, India, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam are all International Climate Initiative priority countries.
IKI´s partner countries
The IKI works particularly closely with its priority countries. The selection of the priority countries resulted from an evaluation of the IKI.
