SEED is looking for innovative and locally-led small enterprises active in waste management and Green ICT.

The international SEED Initiative has now opened the Call for Applications for the 2016 SEED Awards in India. SEED is looking for enterprises in India that are active in the following two sectors: Waste Management and Green ICT (Information and Communication Technology). The deadline for application is 20 September.
The SEED Awards for Entrepreneurship in Sustainable Development is an annual awards scheme designed to find the most promising, innovative and locally-led start-up and growing eco-inclusive enterprises in countries with developing and emerging economies. The independent SEED International Jury of experts selects enterprises which have the potential to make real improvements in poverty eradication and environmental sustainability while contributing to a greener economy.

At this year´s award enterprises can participate which promote waste management for solid or organic waste, lifting waste pickers out of informality and reducing pressure on landfills. The second 2016 SEED Award in India looks for enterprises which demonstrate social and environmental impacts through application of information and communications technology or which provide solutions for sustainable consumption or production using information and communications technology.
Out of all applications received, a cohort of ten shortlisted enterprises – the finalists – will be invited to present their inspiring eco-inclusive enterprises during a stakeholder dialogue forum organised by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in October 2016.

The 2016 SEED Award winners will receive a package of tailored support services consisting of Self-help tools, profiling, capacity and network building.
The two 2016 SEED Awards in India are funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUB) and implemented in cooperation with GIZ. The SEED awards are being presented in 2016 for the eleventh time. To date, over 200 winners from over 40 countries have received awards.

The SEED Initiative was founded following a proposal from BMUB. Apart from BMUB, the Initiative has acquired diverse partners since its inception, including several UN organisations, ministries of various countries, the European Commission, Conservation International and the South African Independent Development Trust. The SEED Initiative has been hosted by Adelphi Research in Berlin since April 2013.
