The multi-media platform 'GLOBAL IDEAS' gets people worldwide interested in biodiversity and climate change mitigation.

The multi-media platform 'GLOBAL IDEAS' is this year's winner in the 'Online' category of the UmweltMedienpreis awarded by Deutsche Umwelthilfe (German Environmental Aid) for media services spotlighting the environment. Run by German broadcaster Deutsche Welle, the platform is sponsored by the German Environment Ministry (BMUB) from funds from the International Climate Initiative (IKI). Manuela Kasper-Claridge, Head of Deutsche Welle's economics and science division, reporter Inga Sieg and cameraman Axel Warnstedt received the award on behalf of Global Ideas.

'GLOBAL IDEAS is Deutsche Welle-TV's highly effective initiative for profiling successful environmental projects from all over the world that are dedicated to conserving biodiversity and protecting the global climate,' said Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, Parliamentary State Secretary at BMUB, in summing up the winning entry in her congratulatory speech. She thanked the award-winners for their great commitment, extraordinary creativity and professional approach.

GLOBAL IDEAS showcases examples of best practice - in other words, project ideas that can serve as a model for others. Each week, GLOBAL IDEAS presents new, readily accessible short films illustrating how people and projects in developing countries and emerging nations are taking action to preserve the world's wealth of flora and fauna and to combat climate change. These same countries are the ones with the greatest biodiversity worldwide, and the ones where many people are directly dependent on ecosystem goods and services for their very survival. Using a wide range of multilingual and multi-media elements and broadcasting via various platforms and routes, GLOBAL IDEAS reaches a global audience, and young internet users in particular. The main focus of its reporting is on innovative projects supported by the German Environment Ministry using funds from IKI. BMUB has been promoting the Deutsche Welle-TV project since 2009.
