Report
This 2025 report presents baseline ecological assessments of coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass across the Kwale County (Kenya) and Tanga Region (Tanzania) transboundary seascape. Coral cover averages just 9.8%, dominated by algae, with reef fish biomass below healthy WIO levels. Seagrass cover ranges 67-90% but shows localized degradation. Mangroves vary from healthy to degraded due to harvesting and erosion. Findings support the proposed Transboundary Conservation Area (MAB Reserve).
