COP26 | Protecting the Congo peatlands for climate mitigation and adaptation
Coordinated by the CongoPeat project, University of Exeter; University of Kisangani; Marien N’Gouabi University and UNEP-WCMC, the session provided information on the central Congo peatlands from the CongoPeat project, a network of 50 scientists working together to assess the size, carbon stocks and threats to these peatlands. The panellists highlighted some of the threats to this newly discovered ecosystem and presented some possibilities for the continued protection of these peatlands.
