IKI JET Study Tour 2024: Just Transition in South Africa — Lessons from Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, South Africa’s coal heartland, is navigating a complex energy transition. To support a just energy transition, South Africa has launched bold plans to protect workers and communities. In October 2024, stakeholders from seven coal regions worldwide joined a study tour in Mpumalanga, organized by GIZ under the IKI JET project. Participants explored a decommissioned coal plant, renewable energy projects, and local economic diversification initiatives like SMMEs.
