Facility for Environmentally-Friendly Transport Technology and Measures (TRANSfer I)
The TRANSfer project aimed at enabling decision-makers in developing countries to develop climate change mitigation measures in the transport sector as nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs). A team of experts advised the transport ministries in Indonesia, Colombia and South Africa in selecting and prioritising suitable mitigation measures and preparing them as NAMAs. In addition to providing technical advice, the project held workshops and commissioned studies. Furthermore, the project worked closely with the countries’ planning and/or environment ministries as well as authorities at sub-national level. A handbook entitled ‘Navigating Transport NAMAs was developed to spread the experience around the world. This handbook includes practical experiences and was updated regularly (www.transport-namas.org). Experience gained through the TRANSfer project was actively incorporated into UNFCCC negotiations to ensure transport issues were given greater consideration.
