Turkish German Cooperation for integrated Climate and Biodiversity Action

Türkiye is committed to reduce its Green House Gas (GHG) emissions and protect its biodiversity and ecosystems. The objective of the project is to assist the Turkish government in effectively achieving this target in line with the country’s national and international relevant legal and strategic frameworks, such as the National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP), Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC), draft Climate Law, National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP). The project adopts an integrated approach by providing technical support to relevant ministries as well as other stakeholders at local and regional level. Further it aims at fostering coordination and knowledge exchange between government actors and IKI projects in Türkiye and strengthen the visibility of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) in Türkiye.

State of implementation/results

  • The Turkish German Cooperation for integrated Climate and Biodiversity Action – Policy Interface Project officially started in October 2024.
  • Working relations with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry were formally established in November 2024. The Plan of Operation was discussed and finalized with Department of Climate Change, ensuring strategic alignment with national climate priorities such as Emission Trading System, Green taxonomy and NDC monitoring and reporting. The commitment of these key stakeholders underscores the political significance of the initiative and ensures that its implementation remains closely coordinated with Türkiye’s climate and biodiversity policy objectives.
