Geographical constraints have limited the global expansion of geothermal energy so far. Energy losses in long-distance transport have limited its economic use and resulted in a predominantly regional use of this renewable energy source. Power-to-X could change this: since PtX products such as green ammonia can be transported, PtX can make geothermal energy a commodity. This study analyses the current situation and potential of geothermal energy for PtX, focusing on El Salvador, Chile, and Kenya.
