The building sector accounts for almost 40 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. The global building floor area is expected to double by 2060. Energy-efficient buildings are therefore essential to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement.

The Programme for Energy Efficiency in Buildings, a Franco-German Programme, financed via the IKI programme and other funds, was presented at the celebrations for the 5 year anniversary of the Paris Agreement.
