An Inventory Assessment and Monitoring Framework for Indian Wetlands

12/2020 | Tool/Open source product

The framework "An wetland inventory, assessment and monitoring system (WIAMS)" was developed for wetland managers for wetland assessment and monitoring in India and forms the foundation for effective integrated wetland management. This framework builds on the Ramsar Convention-recognized WIAMS and prioritizes monitoring parameters on the basis of their management relevance and practicality in the Indian context. It also supports integration of ecosystem services within the integrated management planning process, as also emphasised by the National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Ecosystems.
