Innovative Knowledge Management for scaling practical solutions: Leveraging PANORAMA Global Biodiversity Framework Implementation
Effective knowledge management is essential for the successful implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), as recognized by the draft knowledge management strategy to support the implementation of the GBF. As countries strive to meet their biodiversity targets, the sharing of knowledge on good practices for implementation becomes increasingly critical, enabling successful solutions to be replicated. PANORAMA – Solutions for a Healthy Planet – is a global partnership that supports knowledge management, capacity development, and peer-to-peer learning, featuring a repository of over 1,500 actionable solutions from more than 1,000 knowledge holders worldwide. It covers a wide range of topics, biomes and approaches relevant to the GBF, including species conservation, ecosystem restoration and climate change responses, as well as cross-cutting issues such as urban biodiversity and One Health. By integrating online and offline knowledge sharing and transforming undocumented knowledge from practice into written case studies, it holds a unique niche alongside the vast range of online biodiversity data and information platforms.
This side event is directly relevant to COP agenda item 12 and will delve deeper into PANORAMA’s potential to support most of the strategic objectives of the knowledge management strategy for the GBF, building on the mention of PANORAMA as a relevant initiative in CBD COP decision 15/16.
The event will feature case studies and experiences from various regions, showcasing how PANORAMA's integrated approach has effectively bridged local solutions with global policy frameworks and supports NBSAP implementation.
Representatives from the CBD Secretariat and Parties such as Germany, Colombia, Mexico (tbc), Thailand (tbc) and Costa Rica (tbc) will discuss how PANORAMA's knowledge management tools are contributing to scaling and replication of solutions for GBF implementation. Participants will learn how to leverage these tools in their own contexts, enhancing their efforts in biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
The event will highlight specific success stories and the tangible impacts of PANORAMA’s solutions through various engaging formats. Detailed presentations of selected case studies will demonstrate the successful implementation of NbS, followed by Q&A sessions for deeper discussion. Short impact videos will showcase real-world benefits, featuring interviews with solution providers and beneficiaries. An interactive poster session will allow participants to explore a gallery of success stories and engage with solution providers. A panel discussion with representatives from successful PANORAMA projects will share experiences, key success factors, and insights into replicating solutions.
