Sustainable Finance from Asia’s Tiger Landscapes
Asia’s tiger landscapes are among the world’s most biodiverse and economically important ecosystems, providing critical services such as carbon storage and water regulation while supporting rural livelihoods. Yet financing for their protection, restoration and sustainable management remains insufficient, fragmented and heavily dependent on grants.
This event will explore practical approaches to mobilising finance for biodiversity at landscape scale, drawing on experience from the Tiger Landscapes Investment Facility (TLIF). TLIF combines technical assistance, investment-pipeline development and risk-sharing mechanisms to enable domestic financial institutions to finance nature-positive micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
Country experiences from Bhutan, Malaysia, Nepal and Thailand will illustrate how blended finance can help build investable pipelines, integrate biodiversity considerations into financial decision-making, address investment risks and strengthen the conditions for replication and scale.
The discussion will also examine how complementary instruments, including grants, guarantees, investment vehicles, outcome-based instruments and verified biodiversity impacts, can work together as part of an integrated landscape-finance architecture.
Participants will gain practical insights into the financial structures, institutional partnerships, safeguards and project-development systems needed to translate biodiversity commitments into investable action, with lessons relevant well beyond tiger landscapes.
