Scaling up progress on Target 15: Lessons from encouraging and enabling business assessment and disclosure
Businesses and financial institutions play a critical role in integrating biodiversity into investment, lending and business decisions, helping redirect capital toward nature-positive outcomes. At the same time, growing disclosure requirements from multinational companies and global financiers are increasing demand for biodiversity-related information across value chains. This event will spotlight private-sector frontrunners that are advancing biodiversity assessment and disclosure and explore how they can help accelerate national progress on Target 15.
The session will open with a presentation from UNEP-WCMC on the current status of Target 15 implementation, drawing on findings from the draft Global Report on Collective Progress in the Implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. With two-thirds of national targets showing little or insufficient progress, the presentation will share key lessons from country experiences and approaches to biodiversity monitoring and reporting.
Moderated by UNDP, two panel discussions will explore practical pathways to accelerate implementation. The first will showcase successful government-led initiatives and lessons learned from countries advancing Target 15. The second will focus on collaboration between governments and the private sector, including the role of businesses and industry associations in driving action. It will also highlight findings from the 2026 IPBES Business and Biodiversity Assessment, which found that while all businesses depend on and impact nature, fewer than 1% of publicly traded companies currently report on nature. The discussion will emphasize the need for coordinated action across government, finance, business and civil society to scale progress on Target 15.
