Mitigation Action Facility Call for Projects 2026: From Pledges to Projects - Scaling Sectoral Decarbonisation
As the world approaches the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil (10–21 November 2025), a symbolic location in the Amazon and a timely reminder of the global urgency to deliver climate action at scale, the focus of the international climate agenda is shifting decisively toward implementation. COP30, widely viewed as the “COP of implementation”, marks a transition from high-level ambition to tangible, sectoral results.
The Mitigation Action Facility (MAF) stands as strategic enabler of climate action. Building on its experience to turn climate ambition into implementation, the MAF continues to provide catalytic, results-oriented funding to support emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs) in translating their updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs 3.0) into investment-ready initiatives.
With up to EUR 100 million available under the 2026 Call for Projects, the MAF will support ambitious, scalable and sector-wide mitigation solutions across the energy, industry, and transport sectors, aligned with NDCs and broader sustainable development goals. This approach directly contributes to bridging the gap between climate ambition and financial delivery; a core challenge underscored by the Global Stocktake and the slow pace of NDC updates ahead of COP30.
The MAF’s approach directly addresses key barriers by offering transformational climate finance and technical assistance, grounded in country-driven mitigation initiatives. The launch of the 2026 Call for Projects reaffirms the MAF’s commitment to catalysing operational climate action, demonstrating how finance mobilises climate ambition into actual outcomes as countries finalise their NDCs 3.0.
With this event, the Mitigation Action facility aims to:
- Launch the 2026 Call for Projects, including the announcement of improvements of project cycle processes and an additional modality
- Announce shortlisted projects selected for the Detailed Preparation Phase under the 2025 Call for Projects and projects approved for implementation
- Present the new Mitigation Action Facility’s report “From grants to guarantees: How the Mitigation Action Facility’s financial mechanisms transform NDC ambition into climate action”
- Highlight selected, funded projects in implementation
- Facilitate an informal networking opportunity for potential applicants, interested stakeholders and MAF representatives
