Supporting global climate and biodiversity targets in NDCs 3.0: Successful Scaling up of Nature based Solutions in LAC

The climate emergency is accelerating across Latin America, where extreme and slow onset events are putting pressure on ecosystems and vulnerable populations. Ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) is a promising cost-effective adaptation approach to enhance resilience of people to climate change while also contributing to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. Despite the urgent need to accelerate and scale up actions on climate change adaptation and biodiversity loss, implementation is not advancing at the speed and scale needed.

Recently, Latin America has ramped up experiences in implementing EbA across diverse ecosystems and communities. These interventions reveal both the opportunities and the barriers to scaling up and accelerating adaptation actions. The challenge now is to turn lessons into actionable guidance that helps governments, organizations, and communities to institutionalize EbA and replicate successes across sectors and landscapes.

This side event focuses on translating lessons learned into operational pathways for scaling up EbA in NDCs 3.0. Speakers will present success factors that enable sustainable results. Country cases from the EbA LAC program will show how institutions integrate EbA into planning tools, productive ecosystems, and community programs. The discussion will surface barriers and entry points for wider uptake, from local to national levels.
