Colombia’s National Ecosystem Assessment: Key Insights for the Implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity - Talk with authors

In 2017, 106 Colombian experts from various disciplines, including experts on Indigenous and local knowledge, began developing a comprehensive, up-to-date, and critical synthesis of knowledge on biodiversity and ecosystem services and their interlinkages to people, under the management of the Alexander von Humboldt Institute. In 2022, Colombia launched its national ecosystem assessment, which includes a summary of key findings for policymakers, such as national-level State actors, as well as local and regional actors from the public and private sectors, and organised communities.

The Colombia National Ecosystem Assessment was developed with the technical support of the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) and its National Ecosystem Assessment Initiative (NEA Initiative), which was established in 2017 to assist countries to conduct or scope their national ecosystem assessments. The NEA Initiative works in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme.
